Saturday hit 30°C and Newcastle made its annual announcement: swimming season is open. The only question is whether your pool got the memo.
Every year it plays out the same way. The first warm weekend arrives, someone lifts the pool cover, takes one look at the water and reaches for their phone. And every year, by the time that call comes in, half of Newcastle has already made the same call. The difference between a pool that is sparkling clean by the time the kids break up for October school holidays and one that is still cloudy two weeks into summer often comes down to a single thing: who booked first.
This is not about being dramatic. It is just maths. There are a fixed number of pool technicians in the area, a fixed number of service slots available each week, and an increasingly not-fixed number of pool owners who all want their water sorted before the same long weekend. Demand goes up. Supply stays flat. The people who called early get booked in. The people who figured they would get around to it end up on a wait list, watching the forecast and hoping for a cool snap that is not coming.

After having a poor experience at another pool shop in the area I’m glad I found these guys. Fantastic service and I never feel it’s about the upsell and unnecessary purchases. They answer all my questions and offer no nonsense practical solutions. My pool has never looked better!

Really like the new owners. Helpful but not trying to over sell.

Great service from the new team. Due to construction I had the pool in disservice and it turned green and bits didnt look like they were working. I got great advice and within days I had a sparking pool again. Also very friendly and approachable which is awesome.

Fantastic service from Adam & the new owners at Poolside. They couldn’t have been more professional & punctual.
Russel Fowler
Fantastic Service from Poolside Newcastle, they were helpful with my issues and gave me plenty of advice.

A proper spring service is not just a water test and a bag of shock chlorine. Done properly, it is a full inspection of everything your pool has been quietly ignoring since Easter. The filter gets cleaned or backwashed, which matters more than most people realise. A filter that is packed with six months of debris does not just run slowly, it drives up your chemical costs because your water cannot circulate properly. You end up adding more product to compensate for a problem that was never actually about the chemicals in the first place.
The water balance gets checked properly, not just eyeballed. pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabiliser levels. These four things work together, and when one is off, the others start misbehaving. Low alkalinity makes pH swing all over the place. High calcium turns your water cloudy and quietly scales your equipment. Low stabiliser means your chlorine burns off in the sun before it has done much of anything. A good technician checks all of it and adjusts it in the right order, because adding chemicals in the wrong sequence is one of the fastest ways to create a problem that did not exist when you started.
The salt chlorinator gets checked too, including the cell. These things work hard through summer and the cell plates build up with calcium scale over time. A chlorinator that looks like it is running fine can actually be producing a fraction of the chlorine it should, which is how pools end up with algae outbreaks in the middle of a heatwave. By the time you notice the water turning green, you are looking at shock treatment, possibly an acid wash, and a pool that is out of action for days. The spring service finds that problem before it becomes a crisis.
Equipment gets inspected while the technician is there. Pump seals, O-rings, valve handles, the lid on the chlorinator housing. Small things that cost almost nothing to replace when caught early and cost considerably more when they fail mid-January and you are trying to get someone out between Christmas and New Year.
What To Do Next
If you are reading this in early October, you have got a reasonable chance of securing a booking before the wait list fills out for the school holiday period. If you are reading it any later than that, it is worth calling anyway because cancellations happen and it is always worth being on the list.
The process is straightforward. Get in touch with Poolside Newcastle, let them know what you have got, whether it is a residential backyard pool, a rental property, a strata complex or a larger commercial or resort setup, and they will tell you what is available. There is no hard sell and no obligation. If they can fit you in, great. If the timing is tight, they will be honest with you about that too.
For Airbnb and holiday rental owners, the timing matters even more than it does for homeowners. A cloudy or chemically imbalanced pool is one of the fastest ways to earn a bad review from a guest who paid a premium specifically for pool access. Getting the service done before your peak booking period is not an optional extra, it is just good business.
Strata managers and resort operators, if you are not already on a recurring service schedule, this is a reasonable moment to look at that. Reactive maintenance on a commercial pool is significantly more expensive than scheduled maintenance, and the disruption to residents or guests when a pool is closed unexpectedly is a different kind of expensive again.
The short version of all of this is simple. The pool needs a service, the season has started, technician availability is already tightening up, and the cost of sorting it out now is a fraction of the cost of sorting it out after something goes wrong in the middle of summer.
Contact Poolside Newcastle now and lock in a booking. The wait list is not infinite and the warm weather has already arrived.
